Black Mum Magic Project

The #BlackMumMagic Project

A Community of Women Celebrating Motherhood and Uplifting Each Other

ABOUT THE BLACK MUM MAGIC PROJECT

The Black Mum Magic Project was developed by the Cheshire and Merseyside Women's and Children's Service Partnership in response to the tragic findings of the MBRRACE Report which highlighted inequalities between BAME women in the perinatal period.

Women from ethnic minority groups are at a greater risk of dying/becoming unwell and developing mental health problems. This impacts on maternal well-being and can have devastating impacts on children and families.

The Project creates a safe space of support and networking for BAME mothers to improve mental well-being, and care experiences through community and self-development.

HEARING YOUR VOICES

The Black Mum Magic Project aims to provide a platform for women to discuss their challenges with maternity care. Learning from experiences to achieve a healthy pregnancy and baby. Topics could include; traditions for BAME women; blessing-ways and other rituals, adapting a cultural diet for a healthier pregnancy, stereotypes and unconscious bias, creating a culturally individual pregnancy and birth plan.

CO-PRODUCTION

In order to change maternity services to become more inclusive for BAME women and your families we have the opportunity to co-produce services and resources that are culturally diverse, aware and sensitive to the needs and care of BAME women. Through the Cheshire and Merseyside BAME Women's Network Group we want your input to re-design services to stop unconscious bias.

OUR VIRTUAL EVENTS

As this project is launching during the Covid-19 pandemic there will be a weekly virtual  group for our BAME women to come and hold a space for the issues that matter to you. The events will be facilitated by team members who will help guide and promote the conversations.

Virtual Listening Sessions will run every Tuesday - Starting 7th July from 1pm to 2:30pm
